"Cryptography Through the Ages"
Imagine sending a letter that is scrambled before it leaves your hands, so no one else can read it unless they have the secret key to unlock it. This concept is known as cryptography, which is a mathematical tool that ensures the security of messages, bank transactions, and sensitive information. In this session, we will explore how cryptography is used to encode and decode information, both in everyday life and in the search for intelligent signals from space. We will work with a simple cipher and try to decrypt a message without prior knowledge of the key. We’ll also discuss how scientists analyze potential extraterrestrial signals, using mathematical patterns and computational tools to determine whether they contain meaningful information.
No programming experience is necessary—just curiosity and a willingness to explore the
connections between math, astronomy, and the search for life beyond Earth.
